Sensing Cities is a radio show created by Maria Papadomanolaki. It investigates the themes of urban exploration and narrative through the use of sound, writing and new media art. It aims to create an initial understanding of the processes behind artists, writers and specific projects and to raise questions about  perceiving, creating and narrating place, be that fictional, real, internal or external. Sensing Cities brings together different creative approaches that engage with personal or collective memory and history, transience, listening, recording, sensing, voice, words, walking and locative art.

  1. If you’re interested in sound and the exploration of the city, then you could do worse than visit the London Sound Survey website at http://www.soundsurvey.org.uk. Over 1,000 field recordings organised into a variety of sound maps, plus BBC recordings from the 1930s-1950s, historical references to past London sounds, and related stuff.

    • Hi Ian,

Thanks for the comment. I know your work on London Sound Survey. In fact, let me know if you would be interested in setting up an interview at some point. I am in the process of scheduling/recording the next ones. My email is: maria@voicesoundtext.com.
